About NX-Portalen

NX-Portalen was started in 2010 as an effort to better the education quality in CAD/CAE in Siemens NX at the Department of Engineering Design and Materials at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The development process started out with a test site containing video courses that was meant to cover two subjects at the university. Feedback from the users were positive, and further development was initiated in 2011. By the end of 2013, NX-Portalen was considered as the preferred education portal in CAD/CAE in 5 different subjects at NTNU.

In 2014, we at Summit Systems AS took over the management of this website. We wish, not only to maintain the educational quality for students, but also to provide better support for professional users through a competent CAD/CAE/CAM community. Furthermore, we want to provide NX users on any skill level with an extensive resource site containing intuitive and high quality, easy-to-follow video courses, as well as frequently added quick tips.

NX-Portalen has tight bonds with universities and university colleges in Norway. Specifically NTNU – Department of Engineering Design and Materials and Aalesund University College is strong contributors in maintaining the quality and keeping the content up-to-date.

Vision

Our vision is to provide a trusted and inspiring community for users of Siemens PLM Software.

Mission

To increase the  skill level of both students and professionals in the use of Siemens NX through high quality video training, and also by connecting users through our community forum. Our courses are created by engineers for engineers.

What is NX?

Siemens NX is an advanced high-end CAD/CAM/CAE software developed to cover the entire product lifecycle, from concept development all the way through production. It was originally devolped by Unigraphics, but Siemens PLM Software took over the development in 2007.

It is used, among other tasks, for:

  • CAD – Computer Aided Design –  Design, which include parametric and surface modeling.
  • CAE – Computer Aided Engineering – Engineering Analysis, including static, dynamic, electro-magnetic, thermal or fluid.
  • CAM – Computer Aided Manufacturing – Manufacturing the designs websites by using machining modules.

Webmaster & Application Engineer

I was was introduced to NX at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2009, and was at that time dissatisfied with the teaching methods in NX. This led to the initiation of NX-Portalen in 2010, which has remained as the preferred educational portal in CAD and CAE for several subjects at NTNU. I have an M.Sc. in mechanical engineering, and I have a special interest for CAD in general.

Technical Lead Shipbuilding

Ship design and its related 3 Dimensional shapes always fascinated myself. In 2010 I started to discover ship design as Naval Architect in NX. Meanwhile I am fascinated by the holistic approach with Siemens PLM software always looking for most efficient and sophisticated ship design processes.

Student, NTNU

After becoming a student at Norwegian Univeristy of Science and Technology in the fall of 2013, I first used NX in an introduction course to the various engineering disciplines available in my line of study. I found NX to be the most fun to work with, and therefore invested a large portion of time and effort into the project. This in turn led to the opportunity to help develop NX-Portalen further, from the summer of 2014.

NX-Portalen has made it a lot easier to learn a complex CAD-software.
